St. Michael the Archangel Parish Church Amsterdam Street, Capitol Park Homes, QC

The St. Michael the Archangel Parish (SMAP) is a medium sized church, situated inside the Capitol Park Homes Subdivision,Q.C.

History of the Church:

SMAP started as a small neighborhood chapel under the Parish of the Holy Spirit in 1998 and it grew to be a sub-Parish of St Peter.  Through time, their beloved Bishop Antonio Tobias of the archdiocese of Novaliches felt it was time for SMAP to stand on their own feet. With prayers and small careful steps, SMAP became a full parish on June 1, 2008 with Fr Felipe as their first Parish Priest. On September 29, 2010, the feast day of its patron saint, St Michael the Archangel, SMAP celebrated their 3rd parish fiesta.

 Main Entrance

The church interior is roomy, with lots of open space on its left and right side, comfortable and clean. For those wanting a little privacy and cozy surroundings with simplicity on their celebration, this could be a good venue for weddings, baptisms and confirmations.

The vibrant personality of its Parish Priest Fr. Felipe V. Rufes, M.I, a Spanish national who speaks fluent English and Tagalog, makes our visit worthwhile during the Baptismal and Confirmation rites of our MCMC Kasalang Bayan candidates.
The Kasalang Bayan is an outreach program of the Missionary Couples of Mary for Christ (MCMC), with the end view of sponsoring "Church Weddings"  to couples,  married only in a civil ceremony. Culminating this coming December 8, 4PM, the venue will be at the  St Michael the Archangel Parish.

Angels are not like the other saints on the Church’s calendar who were all human beings. Angels are celestial beings created on a higher order than man. They are completely spiritual beings; they have intelligence and will; they are personal and immortal creatures. Angels are the servants and messengers of God -- in fact, this is what the word “angel” means. Several different kinds (or ranks) of angels are mentioned in the Bible: angels, archangels, cherubim, seraphim, thrones, choirs, dominions, principalities, and powers.
Our patron saint is called the Prince of All Angels -- the leader of the army of God during the Lucifer uprising, casting Satan out of Paradise. He is one of only two angels named in the Bible, the other being Gabriel. He is associated with the planet Mercury. Muslims, Christians and Jews all express devotion to him, and there are writings about him in all three religions. Considered the guardian angel of Israel, Michael’s name means in Hebrew, ‘Who is like God?’

St. Michael is also the patron saint of warriors and police is also guardian of the souls of the dead, weighing their good and bad deeds in his scales, according to Christian tradition. He is also the patron of grocers, paratroopers and radiologists, among many others. St Michael also guards the body of Eve, according to the apocryphal Revelation of Moses.
Churches on hilltops were often named after St Michael. The Prince of All Angels is the bringer of the gift of prudence. St Michael is represented in religious art as a handsome youth with wings, armor and bears a dragon-slaying sword and shield. He might be depicted as an angelic warrior, fully armed with helmet, sword, and shield (often the shield bears the Latin inscription: Quis ut Deus), standing over the dragon, whom he sometimes pierces with a lance. He might also hold a pair of scales in which he weighs the souls of the deceased, or the book of life, to show that he takes part in the judgment.

The Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel
Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in the day of battle;
Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do Thou, O Prince of
the Heavenly Host, by the Power of God, cast into hell, Satan
and all the other evil spirits, who roam throughout the world seeking
the ruin of souls. Amen.

St. Peter Parish - Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City .

Hi there,

I will start with our very own Saint Peter Parish, the church where my wife and I serves as lector and commentator every Sundays and Wednesdays. It also serve as the venue of our MCMC (Missionary Couples of Mary for Christ), Marriage Encounter community, under the Marriage Encounter Foundation of the Philippines - http://www.mefp.net/communities.html

The St. Peter parish is headed by our most reverend parish priest, Fr. Antonio Labiao Jr.

History
The Parish was bounded by Batasan Road on the North; Tandang Sora on the South; Commonwealth Avenue on the West.
St. Peter Parish (SPP), began in 1993 upon her formal erection as a parish like a mustard seed, with no parish church and even without the site for which to build the church.
Equipped only with faith the size of a mustard seed, her first Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Gerardo R. Tapiador and the First Parish Council were able to acquire the site in 1994 on an installment basis. The construction of the church began in 1995 and the level of the main church was adequately completed in 1999. His eminence,(+) Jaime L. Cardinal Sin, DD, Archbishop of Manila, formally dedicated the Church and consecrated her altar on August 15, 1999.The feast day is on February 22.

Personal thoughts:

I believe SPP is the busiest church in the whole Quezon City area or if not in the whole of Luzon. I am not sure about this yet, but I will surely give an update once I verified this information.

The church celebrates 16 masses every Sunday plus 2 off site masses; one in the mall and one at the tricycle terminal near Batasan area and that's a lot of masses in just one day.

The choir music is remarkable, mass service is excellent, cleanliness of the surrounding is superb, audio system is great and the ventilation system of the church is above average.

The seating capacity of the church I guess is about 800 to a thousand including the 2nd level. (To be verified).

It also has a big open parking lot on it's right side, but  you can also park at the nearby basement parking of Convergy's building at P 20.00 for a two hour parking.

Public transportation is also a breeze, because you can catch air-conditioned buses, mini vans and  passenger jeepneys just in front of the church.

Recently, they have plans to construct a "Bell Tower with Carillons" and I believe this will encourage more church goers and religious folks from all parts of the country to visit and attend mass at St. Peter Church.

Directions to St Peter Church:

From the South: Take EDSA going to Quezon City. Turn Right at East Avenue. Its the next street after Kamuning. Please take the inner right lane after Nepa Q. After the right turn, go straight towards Quezon City Circle. When you reach the Quezon City Circle, take the Commonwealth Avenue turn towards the direction of Philcoa, Fairview and the marker on the right side of Commonwealth avenue is the Ayala Techno Hub, to make sure you are in the right direction. Drive along Commonwealth Avenue and when you see Ever Gotesco Mall on your right, just after a few block on your right, you will find St. Peter Parish.

From the North: You can also take EDSA, then head either towards, West Avenue or Quezon Ave.
If you're coming from Novaliches you can either take the stretch of Commonwealth from SM Fairview towards Quezon City circle or Batasang Pambansa and you will see the church to your left side just after the Convergy's building.
